Hunsdon Ducklings Pre-School is a small and friendly organisation that provides pre-school play and learning opportunities for children aged between rising 3 and 4 years old. We hold sessions in a dedicated Portacabin classroom to the rear of the Hunsdon School site and have access to the school playground for outdoor play, weather permitting. You can find us through the school pedestrian access gate.
We employ qualified staff and are registered with Ofsted for up to sixteen children per session. We are a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance (PLA), and are insured appropriately through the PLA (the current certificate is displayed on the parental notice board).
Pre-Schools are important for young children. Research has proven that children who attend them do better at school later. They provide a curriculum (the "Early Learning Goals") covering such subjects as simple mathematics and literacy, which gives children a head start for school. Not only that but they allow children to socialise and share and mix with others, including adults outside the family, which is vital for their future development.
Like many village playgroups, Hunsdon Ducklings Pre-School is a Registered Charity (No. 1042209) with a Constitution approved by the Charities Commission and the PLA. A Committee of volunteer parents manages us. Committee members, and the Officers of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, are elected each year at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in May. The Committee is responsible for setting and collecting fees, employing end paying staff, providing premises and equipment, implementing and overseeing policies & procedures, ensuring the safety of the children and the quality of care and learning experiences provided. Regular fundraising is essential to top-up the income from fees and ensure the viability of the group in the long-term. Parental involvement is fully welcomed and sought.
